Following his All-America career at UCLA, he turned pro in 1977... Member of the US Davis Cup team, 1981-83, 1985... Played his last Davis Cup match in 1985 vs. West Germany and defeated Hans Schwaier before losing to Boris Becker in Hamburg... Ranked among the top 15 from 1980 to 1984 and it was only due to injury that caused his ranking to drop from 9 to 24 in 1985.

By late summer of '85 the pain from recurring nerve problems in his serving arm became unbearable and he decided to forgo the US Open... His ATP ranking dropped to 53 in 1986 but he came back strong by finishing 1987 by reaching the finals in his last two events (runner-up Scottsdale, won Hong Kong) and ending at No... 20... Earned a career-high $267,630 in 1981... Following stints as men's tennis coach at Pepperdine University and as personal coach for Pete Sampras and Taylor Dent, named Director of High Performance for the USTA in 2003.

1988 -- Runner-up at Guaruja (l. Mattar); Semi-finalist at Seoul.

1987 -- Won 10th singles title of career in Hong Kong; Runner-up at Scottsdale (l. Gilbert); Semi-finalist at Chicago; Quarter-finalist at Los Angeles, San Francisco.

1986 -- Semi-finalist at Munich, Houston; Quarter-finalist at Atlanta.

1985 -- Semi-finalist at Memphis, Toronto Indoor,; Quarter-finalist at Philadelphia, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Montreal, San Francisco.

1984 -- Titlist at Brisbane Indoor, Johannesburg; Runner-up at Los Angeles; Semi-finalist at Memphis, Stuttgart, San Francisco, Sydney Indoor; Quarter-finalist at Philadelphia, LaQuinta, Rotterdam, Toronto, WCT/Dallas, Masters (Jan. '85).

1981 -- Claimed singles titles in San Juan, San Francisco; Runner-up at Montreal, Japan Open; Semi-finalist at LaQuinta, Boston, N. Conway, Atlanta, Sydney Indoor; Quarter-finalist at Tournament of Champions-N.Y., U.S. Open; Doubles winner at New Orleans (w/Moor); Runner-up at San Juan (w/Tim Gullikson), LaQuinta, Roland Garros (w/Moor).

1980 -- Defended title in Atlanta, also won Maui; Runner-up at San Francisco, Birmingham, Japan Open, New Orleans, Canton Semi-finalist at Rome, Hamburg, Washington, Quarter-finalist at US Open, N. Conway, Houston, Indianapolis; Doubles Runner-up at Rome (w/Taroczy).

1979 -- Triumphed in Atlanta; Doubles Runner-up at Atlanta (w/Docherty); won first doubles title at Tulsa (w/Gonzalez).
