Graduated from Yale University with a degree in economics in 1983 after
earning all-Ivy League honors in 1981-82-83. He turned pro after graduation.
Likes all water sports and spending time on the beach.
Broke a three-year Grand Prix final drought by qualifying at Scottsdale
in October 1988 and finishing runner-up to Mikael Pernfors. Jumped from 370
to No. 70 on the ATP computer.
Coached by Bill Drake (who also works with Tim Mayotte).
Underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in December 1986 to repair ligament
damage. He has been wearing a knee brace since returning in January 1987.
Compiled a 17-18 match record and ranked No. 87 on the ATP computer in
1989, his third top 100 finish in four years (No. 73 in '86, 78 in '88). He
earned a career-high $101,564 in 1989.
Captured his first career tour doubles title in Stuttgart on July 19,
1992 (w/Talbot), defeating No. 3 seeds Rosset-J. Sanchez. Also upset top-
seeded Nijssen-Suk in the quarterfinals.
