Full name is Richard Peter Stanislav Krajicek...Began playing tennis at age four...Won the 12-under and 14-under National Championships twice...Son of Czech immigrants...At age 12, decided to switch from a two-handed backhand to a one-handed backhand...Coached by Australian Rohan Goetzke, whole career since juniors…Goetzke now technical director of the Dutch Tennis Federation...Favorite food is typical Dutch "stampot" with bacon along with Japanese...Established the Richard Krajicek Foundation in July 1993 with the goal of making sports accessible to underprivileged youth with a special focus on soccer and tennis...In June 1998, opened a playground in The Hague where children can play tennis, soccer and basketball...He is heavily involved with his Foundation constructing playgrounds and introducing athletics to underprivileged youth in The Netherlands...Earned ATP's Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of Year award in 2000...Participated in Nelson Mandela Tribute in Cape Town, South Africa in December 1997 and defeated Boris Becker in final (all proceeds went to the president's children's fund)...Has a 7-8 career Davis Cup record in nine ties...Wife, Daphne Deckers (married July 7, 1999) played a part in the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies" in 1997...The couple have one daughter, Emma (born Mar. 26, 1998) and one son, Alec (born May 2, 2000)...In September 1999, Nike dedicated its new European headquarters in Hilversum and the Dutchman was one of four athletes to have an office building named after him...In February 1999, as part of celebration for Royal Dutch Tennis Association centenary, the Dutch Postal system released a stamp featuring the '96 Wimbledon champion..."This is a big honor for me," he said...In retirement, has worked in finance and has been director of ABN Amro World Tennis tournament in Rotterdam since 2004...Plays occasional senior tennis...After Wimbledon, visits his favourite tournament once a year to play on grass courts.

1992 -- Reached his first Grand Slam SF at Australian Open (d. Chang, Stich), only to withdraw from his SF match with a right shoulder injury...Reached final in the Tokyo (l. Courier) after beating Stich and Edberg...Won his first North American title in Los Angeles (d. Woodforde)...Qualified for ATP Tour World Championship with title run in Antwerp where he defeated Korda, top-ranked Courier and Woodforde in final...Became first Dutch player to rank in Top 10 since Tom Okker in 1975...

1993 -- Repeated title in Los Angeles (d. Chang) and reached final of Stuttgart-indoor, losing to Stich in longest final of year (56 games)...Reached first career SF at French Open, losing to Courier in four sets...Ranked in Top 15 every week during year...Won his second career doubles title in Key Biscayne (w/Siemerink)...

1994 -- Sat out until late March with tendinitis in both knees...Returned in Estoril where he played doubles only (w/Oosting), reaching final...Won Barcelona title, posting consecutive wins over Bruguera (QF), Agenor (SF) and C. Costa (F)...Won first career grasscourt title in Rosmalen (d. Braasch)...Won Sydney-indoor (d. Becker)...

1995 -- Reached SF in Adelaide and QF in Sydney to begin season, then captured indoor title in Stuttgart - beating W. Ferreira (2nd RD), Larsson (QF) and Stich in a five-set final...Advanced to New Haven final (l. to Agassi) with wins over Haarhuis, Becker and Kafelnikov...Served for title at 6-3, 5-3 against the world No. 1 before losing 3-6, 7-6, 6-3...In doubles, won his third career title in Rosmalen (w/Siemerink)...

1996 -- Underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery on Dec. 9 to repair torn meniscus and returned two months later...1996-Finished a career best No. 7 and advanced to SF at year-end championship in Hannover (l. to Becker)...Became first Dutchman to win Wimbledon title, defeating Sampras in QF, Stoltenberg in SF and Washington in final (dropped only one set during fortnight)....Also a finalist at TMS Roma (l. to Muster) and Los Angeles (l. to Chang)...Underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery on Dec. 9 to repair torn meniscus and returned two months later...

1997 -- Captured three titles on as many surfaces (carpet, hard, grass) and equalled his career high of 49 match victories (also in '92)...Finished season with a personal-best 987 aces (No. 3 on Tour)...

1998 -- Won indoor titles in St. Petersburg (d. Rosset) and Stuttgart (d. Kafelnikov) and reached final in Toronto (l. to Rafter)...Also a SF in five other events, including Wimbledon...Went 5-0 in matches decided in final set tie-breaker...Closed year by undergoing arthroscopic left knee surgery on Nov. 9 to repair torn medial meniscus...

1999 -- Extended his streak of winning at least one title for nine straight years with championships at London-indoor (d. Rusedski) and Ericsson Open in Miami, his second career TMS title (d. Sampras in QF, Enqvist in SF, Grosjean in final)...During North American summer hard court circuit, reached QF at TMS Cincinnati (l. to Sampras)...Did not drop a set en route to QF at US Open before losing in a fifth-set tie break to Kafelnikov on Sept. 8...In that match, fired an all-time record of 49 aces and was broken only once in 26 service games...During European indoor circuit, reached SF in Vienna and final at TMS Stuttgart (d. Rusedski, l. to Enqvist)...Led ATP in aces (819) for first time in career and also led in service games won (89 percent) and 1st serve points won (82 percent)...Compiled a 30-12 record on hard, 6-2 on carpet, 4-3 on grass and 3-4 on clay...Surpassed $1 million for fourth straight year...

2000 -- Streak of eight consecutive years in Top 20 and nine straight seasons with at least one title came to an end...Part of reason he played in fewest matches (41) of his career was due to arthroscopic left knee surgery on Jan. 31...Lost to Escude in 2nd RD of Australian Open and in second set of that match, injured his knee...This was second time he underwent surgery to repair meniscus on his left knee (1998)...Returned to action three months later at TMS Monte Carlo where he reached 3rd RD...On grass, reached lone final of year in Halle, posting impressive wins over Rafter (2nd RD), Kiefer (QF) and Chang (SF) before losing to Prinosil...On hard courts, advanced to SF in Long Island and QF for second straight year at US Open...Rallied from a 1-2 sets deficit against Henman in 3rd RD to win 7-5 in fifth set and defeated Hrbaty in 4th RD before losing in four sets to Sampras...Finished No. 4 in service games won (88 percent) and No. 7 in aces (587)...Compiled record of 12-7 on hard, 7-4 on clay, 6-3 on grass, 1-1 on carpet...

2001 -- Missed entire season in singles after undergoing surgery on Mar. 29 in Arlington, Virginia to repair a damaged tendon in his right elbow...His only ATP appearance was in a 1st RD doubles match at Tennis Masters Series Indian Wells (w/Schalken), where he lost to Federer-Hrbaty in straight sets...Off court, received 2000 ATP Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of Year award for his contributions to youth in The Netherlands.

2002 -- The Dutchman returned to the ATP circuit after missing 20 months following elbow surgery in March 2001...Returned to circuit with a protected ATP Entry Ranking ranking of No. 37...Played six tournaments after making comeback on June 17 in native 's-Hertogenbosch on grass...Received a wild card but lost to Federer in first match back...Following week at Wimbledon, recorded his first match win since Nov. 2000 with victory over Squillari in 1st RD en route to QF...Defeated Blake in 2nd RD 11-9 in fifth set in first five-set match since 2000 US Open...Also defeated Srichaphan in 3rd RD before overcoming Philippoussis 67 76 67 76 64 in 4-hour, 11-minute rain-delayed match that was scheduled for Monday but did not finish until 9:11 p.m. on Wednesday...Lost to Malisse in QF, also in five sets...In next two TMS events, lost in 1st RD in Toronto to Nieminen but advanced to 3rd RD in Cincinnati...Defeated Novak and Philippoussis in straight sets before losing to Gonzalez in three...After 2nd RD loss in Long Island to El Aynaoui, retired in 1st RD at US Open against Novak with left heel injury while trailing 61 54...Did not play again rest of season...Protected ranking will end after first three tournaments of 2002, or on March 10, 2003, whichever comes first.
