From The Editor
The beginning of a new year is often filled with excited anticipation, promising hope and limitless possibilities. Last season proved frustrating at times for Roger Federer, but he begins 2009 with renewed focus, just one title away from tying Pete Sampras’s Grand Slam record. With his rivalry against Rafael Nadal now expanded to include Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, does he have what it takes to reclaim his No. 1 ranking?
In this issue, we feature the two stars of the 2008 Australian Open – Djokovic, whose self-belief helped make him a Grand Slam champion, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who electrified the crowds on his unexpected run to the final. Who will make their mark this year? Be sure to keep your eyes on Spanish Davis Cup hero Fernando Verdasco and 20-year-old Croat Marin Cilic.
We also invite you to visit the ATP World Tour’s new destination of Johannesburg, with South Africans Kevin Anderson and Jeff Coetzee giving you a peek of what’s in store for the players.
I hope you enjoy this edition of DEUCE, and I welcome your comments emailed to content@atpworldtour.com.
